Technical Difficulties?

Blogspot seems to be having technical difficulties for the past week.  I am unable to load any photos at all.  Will blog again, when they get it together.  :(

Eden Park = Fall Wonderland

This was a shoot that was rescheduled a few times, due to heat and due to family issues, but I'm so glad it happened when it happened!  After an extremely hot summer, and not wanting to shoot in the 90's, we decided to wait for cooler weather......ok.  so 87 degrees is cooler, and that's what we got on 10-10-10.  To me, the day was a 10 too.  What more can you ask for?  Beautiful people to shoot, colorful trees, and adorable kids!  Makes a perfect 10 to me!!

Sarah, studied photography out of high school and has photography friends.  Something about that makes me just a tad bit nervous, but it's hard to be nervous with this family.  They just put you at ease immediately.  Sarah, thanks for asking me to do your family's pics and for being so easy to spend the day with!

Her eyes are killer!!

He's a heart melter already...

A Shot in the Dark

This past weekend was Homecoming for Oak Hills High School.  About a month ago, our son asked if we would have dinner for a few of his best high school buds.  Sure!  I thought.  What maybe 4 - 6 couples?  Get to know the kids and see them in something other than their swim trunks.  Sounds fun.  So, I asked, how many friends are we talking?  That's when he started naming.  He stopped around 18.  It was still ok., but to throw a wrench in the equation, it was my friend's wedding.....she's 40.  This is her first marriage, and she had waited a long time for it and I wasn't going to miss it.  Word on the street was that it would be the wedding of the century, for our neck of the woods anyway.  My son wrangled up some of his friend's parents to help out.  People stepped up to the plate to help with the food and there were even a few families that stayed the whole time not only to help feed the kids, but to actually stay later and help clean up!  It's a great thing to know people like that do still exist.

After a few more spontaneous texts from my son announcing so and so now had a date, and just be sure to have food for 30, the day appeared.  I made it off to the wedding of the century, which it really was, and back in time to be here when the parents started coming.  Problem was, everyone was here except for a handful.  They were waiting for the master of the hair to show up to get the girl's hair perfected.  So, I started shooting the teens that were here.  Just wanted them to have one shot with their date, or good friends and then there was to be a group shot.  The lighting was perfection!  Got the shots, waited.....waited....waited....(one of the missing teens was the planner of this whole night - my husband's son!  You know how men always say "your kid" when the offspring of both of you has done something annoying?  Well, technically, he is our son, but he was his son for this post.  :)

I began to say goodbye to Mr. beautiful light and hello to darkness....fast.  We broke down and fed the original group and after they had already eaten, we get the call that the hair is done!  Problem.....it's black out.  So, shots of the group and the six kids MIA were all taken in the dark.  I can say, I'm amazed at this incredible Nikon D700 I purchased.  As I looked through the viewfinder, I saw nothing.  Absolutely nothing, but it was able to focus on that nothing and snap a not so horrible photo.  Nothing that compares to Mr. Beautiful Light's gift, but better than nothing.

Would I do it again?  Of course.  What are parent's for?  And, I had the privilege to spend some time with some great parents too.

Danny

Wow.  It's been so long since I've blogged that I actually forgot my password to sign in!  It's been a great summer hanging at home with my kids, but has kept me really busy at the same time.  I have been shooting over the summer, just not blogging about it.  Hopefully, I will catch up as the cooler weather kicks in.

This is my first summer shooting high school seniors, and I love it!  I have met the nicest boys - yes, only boys so far - and their moms.  I love to watch the interactions of moms and boys.  My first child is a boy, and I know it can be tough sometimes to get any information out of them.  It's reassuring to see that I am not the only one who deals with the "tough" kid.  :)  What I, and the moms I've met so far know, is they are so far from tough.  Just getting little peeks into their soft side is a gift.

My most recent shoot, was a high school senior.  I met his mom, but due to a family gathering later in the day, she couldn't tag along.  This was my first shoot with one of these strange species alone.  Luckily, he was easy to talk to and very photogenic.  What I didn't know was that Longworth Hall on a Bengal's home game day is a disaster waiting to happen.  Just driving through the parking lot to exit took about 15 minutes.  Needless to say, we didn't stick around.  We drove to Spring Grove Cemetery instead.  The look on his face when I told him where we were going was priceless!  I'm glad Longworth Hall was a bust.  Spring Grove gave us the finishing edge to the shoot that was missing.  Enjoy!

Third time's a charm....???

My 3rd senior session and yes, it's a boy.  :)  Can't live with them, can't live without them, right?

I was quite nervous with this shoot.  I had never met Michael or his mother before we met in McDonald's parking lot last Friday night.  She had mentioned, via email, that he would rather eat dirt than have his picture taken.  That is pretty much the consensus with boys and pictures and I wasn't feeling especially creative that day.  Thankfully, it rained and wasn't 94 like it was for the last senior.

Michael is a super kid.  He didn't seem to mind at all during the entire shoot.  It didn't ever seem at any one point that he was "done".  His mother thinks he was secretly enjoying himself.  LOL  I wouldn't go that far, but he really was cooperative and relaxed.  They also had me at Elder.  I'm a westsider and have never been to the purple planet before.  I found it fascinating - the purple flowers, purple bushes, purple trash cans, doors, stairs, etc.  Not sure where the purple comes from or why purple was chosen for an all boy high school, anybody know?

So, I think if I am asked to photograph another senior boy, maybe - just maybe - I won't be as nervous.  :)

Thanks for checking in....
